DESCRIPTION:Don't send your old electronics to the landfill!\n\nAs a part o
 f Ecolympics 2026, we will have special collection points set up in the fo
 llowing locations Feb. 18 - March 13:\n\n\n	 BAB (1st floor lobby)\n	 
 SAC W310\n	 Duthie Center at Speed School of Engineering (1st floor Stud
 y Area, SE corner)\n	 HSC Kornhauser Library (1st floor lobby behind ele
 vators)\n	 >> There will also be a special Drive-up Drop-off Collection o
 n Thursday Feb. 26th, 8am-11am on the north side of the Clinical & Trans
 lational Research Building at HSC (505 S Hancock St.). Due to rain, this 
 year we will be loading items into the box truck for recycling at the CTR
  Loading Dock (618 E Muhammad Ali Blvd). The contact for the Drive-up Dro
 p-off is Skip Hurley (502) 599-6228.\n\n\nStop by any of these locations 
 at any time to drop off any of the following types of electronics for recy
 cling: all computers, monitors, televisions, printers, copiers, scanner
 s, servers, networking equipment, fax machines, telephones and cellphones
 , RAM/memory, hard drives, battery backups, and peripherals such as keybo
 ards, mice, speakers, AC adapters, and mixed computer cables/wires. Please
  make sure to wipe your data from devices prior to dropping off.\n\nSepara
 te bins will also be available for recycling of any type of batteries, lam
 ps/bulbs, or ink/toner cartridges.\n\nThis special collection is for your 
 own personal items.\n\nDepartmental E-Waste and lab equipment can always 
 be recycled and picked-up for free any time of year. Here's how to get uni
 versity property picked-up for reuse/recycling:\n\nStep 1: One of the foll
 owing forms must be completed for the e-scrap item(s) to be picked up. All
  forms are located at the Inventory Control/Surplus Property website:\n1. 
 A pick-up request for computer hard-drives and laptop computers must be su
 bmitted using the “Computing Device Surplus Certification” form.\n2. A
 ll other electronic items with a UofL Property tag bar-code must be submit
 ted on a “TRANOVER” form (regardless of value).\n3. All other electron
 ic items valued over $1000 must be submitted on a “TRANOVER” form.\n4.
  All other electronic items valued under $1000 should be submitted on a 
 “TRANUND” form.\nStep 2: After your form has been submitted on-line an
 d has been reviewed by the appropriate department, Physical Plant personne
 l will come to your location and pick up designated items for reuse or rec
 ycling.\n\nWipe Your Data!\n\nPlease be sure to keep your data secure by w
 iping the data from all your devices prior to dropping off items for recyc
 ling. The EPA provides guidance for how to do this on all types of devices
  here.\n\nChecklist for disposing your items:\n\nVerify that the item is i
 ncluded in the Items Accepted for Electronics Recycling list If the device
  functions and powers on, prepare the item by:\n- Backing up important or 
 sensitive data and information\n- Removing the battery (if removable)\n- C
 onducting a Hard Reset or Factory Reset on the device Log out of all accou
 nts associated with the device (i.e. email accounts, cloud storage account
 s, social media accounts, etc.) If you have not conducted a Hard Reset or 
 Factory Reset for the device(s), refer to the following instructions accor
 ding to the device manufacturer:\n- Wipe Your Android Phone: Settings > Sy
 stem > Advanced > Reset Options > Erase All Data (Factory Reset)\n- Wipe y
 our iOS [Apple] Device: Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and
  Settings\n- Wipe your Windows PC: Settings > Update and Security > Recove
 r > Reset this PC > Get Started. Select Remove All Personal Files when pro
 mpted.\n- Wipe your Chromebook or Chrome Tablet: Settings > Advanced > Pow
 erwash\n- Wipe your iMac or MacBook: Power up or restart the device. Once 
 the device is booting up, hold down Option + Command + R until a spinning 
 wheel appears on the screen. Release the Option + Command + R keys then se
 lect the option ‘Reinstall macOS’ and click ‘Continue’. Follow the
  on-screen instructions when asked to select main hard drive to be wiped.\
 n\nResponsible Recycling\n\n\n	\n	Since November 2015, all these E-Scrap i
 tems are recycled by PowerHouse Recyclingin Salisbury, NC. Their goal is t
 o be a zero landfill facility. PowerHouse holds the highest Environmental,
  Health, Safety and Data Destruction certifications in the industry, inclu
 ding ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, R2, e-Stewards certifications and NAID Membe
 rship.\n	\n	\n	UofL pays no shipping costs and receives a modest per-pound
  rebate for most items. UofL pays per-pound to recycle non-flat screen TVs
  and CRT monitors.\n	\n	\n	Watch a video of what happens to your E-waste w
 hen you recycle it at UofL!\n	\n	\n	All these items contain toxins and reu
 sable components which should be kept out of the normal waste stream. UofL
  has recycled a considerable quantity of E-waste in recent years, with jus
 t over 65,000 pounds recycled in 2020 alone!\n	\n\n\nBatteries\n\nAll bat
 tery types are accepted for recycling, including:\n\n\n	Alkaline (A, AA, A
 AA, C, D, 9-volt)\n	Lithium hydride\n	sealed (Li) Nickel-cadmium\n	sealed 
 (Ni-Cad)\n	Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH)\n	Lead-acid, wet-celled (vehicle a
 nd golf cart type)\n	Lead batteries, sealed (Pb) Mercury (Hg)\n\n\nLamps/B
 ulbs\n\nThe lighting wastes that can be dropped off for recycling include:
 \n\n\n	Fluorescent light tubes\n	Compact fluorescent bulbs, including U-tu
 be and circular\n	High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, such as high press
 ure sodium and mercury vapor\n	Ultra-violet (UV) lamps Halogen and xenon l
 amp\n\n\nEcolympics 2026 \nThis is a special event of Ecolympics 2026 and 
 the Campus Race To Zero Waste - February 1st to March 28th! A friendly a
 nnual competition among North American universities. During this 8 week pe
 riod, UofL will compete to reduce waste, increase recycling & composting, 
 and raise conservation awareness across all three campuses! Keep up with t
 he Cards progress at the Campus Race website.\n\nPost your sustainable act
 ions and tag @UofLSustainable  or submit them through our online form to
  win the Grand Prize, or one of eight fabulous weekly prize baskets!\n\nPr
