DESCRIPTION:Don't send your old electronics to the landfill! As a part of t
 he Ecolympics E-Waste Recycling Drive, there will be a special Drive-up 
 Drop-off Collection on Thursday Feb. 26th, 8am-11am on the north side of
  the Clinical & Translational Research Building at HSC. Due to rain, this
  year we will be loading items into the box truck for recycling at the CTR
  Loading Dock (618 E Muhammad Ali Blvd). The contact for the Drive-up Dro
 p-off is Skip Hurley (502) 599-6228.\n\nStop by to drop off any of the fo
 llowing types of electronics for recycling: all computers, monitors, tele
 visions, printers, copiers, scanners, servers, networking equipment, fax
  machines, telephones and cellphones, RAM/memory, hard drives, battery b
 ackups, and peripherals such as keyboards, mice, speakers, AC adapters, an
 d mixed computer cables/wires.\n\n\n\nWe also have E-waste collection poin
 ts set up in the following locations Feb. 18 - March 13:\n     BAB (
 1st floor lobby)\n     SAC W310\n     Duthie Center at Speed Schoo
 l of Engineering (1st floor Study Area, SE corner)\n     HSC Kornhaus
 er Library (1st floor lobby behind elevators)\n     \n\nThis special c
 ollection is for your own personal items.\n\nDepartmental E-Waste and lab 
 equipment can always be recycled and picked-up for free any time of year.
  Here's how to get university property picked-up for reuse/recycling:\n\nS
 tep 1: One of the following forms must be completed for the e-scrap item(s
 ) to be picked up. All forms are located at the Inventory Control/Surplus 
 Property website:\n1. A pick-up request for computer hard-drives and lapto
 p computers must be submitted using the “Computing Device Surplus Certif
 ication” form.\n2. All other electronic items with a UofL Property tag b
 ar-code must be submitted on a “TRANOVER” form (regardless of value).\
 n3. All other electronic items valued over $1000 must be submitted on a 
 “TRANOVER” form.\n4. All other electronic items valued under $1000 sho
 uld be submitted on a “TRANUND” form.\nStep 2: After your form has bee
 n submitted on-line and has been reviewed by the appropriate department, P
 hysical Plant personnel will come to your location and pick up designated 
 items for reuse or recycling.\n\nWipe Your Data!\n\nPlease be sure to keep
  your data secure by wiping the data from all your devices prior to droppi
 ng off items for recycling. The EPA provides guidance for how to do this o
 n all types of devices here.\n\nChecklist for disposing your items:\n\nVer
 ify that the item is included in the Items Accepted for Electronics Recycl
 ing list If the device functions and powers on, prepare the item by:\n- Ba
 cking up important or sensitive data and information\n- Removing the batte
 ry (if removable)\n- Conducting a Hard Reset or Factory Reset on the devic
 e Log out of all accounts associated with the device (i.e. email accounts,
  cloud storage accounts, social media accounts, etc.) If you have not cond
 ucted a Hard Reset or Factory Reset for the device(s), refer to the follow
 ing instructions according to the device manufacturer:\n- Wipe Your Androi
 d Phone: Settings > System > Advanced > Reset Options > Erase All Data (Fa
 ctory Reset)\n- Wipe your iOS [Apple] Device: Settings > General > Reset >
  Erase All Content and Settings\n- Wipe your Windows PC: Settings > Update
  and Security > Recover > Reset this PC > Get Started. Select Remove All P
 ersonal Files when prompted.\n- Wipe your Chromebook or Chrome Tablet: Set
 tings > Advanced > Powerwash\n- Wipe your iMac or MacBook: Power up or res
 tart the device. Once the device is booting up, hold down Option + Command
  + R until a spinning wheel appears on the screen. Release the Option + Co
 mmand + R keys then select the option ‘Reinstall macOS’ and click ‘C
 ontinue’. Follow the on-screen instructions when asked to select main ha
 rd drive to be wiped.\n\nResponsible Recycling\n\n\n	\n	Since November 201
 5, all these E-Scrap items are recycled by PowerHouse Recyclingin Salisbur
 y, NC. Their goal is to be a zero landfill facility. PowerHouse holds the 
 highest Environmental, Health, Safety and Data Destruction certifications 
 in the industry, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, R2, e-Stewards certifi
 cations and NAID Membership.\n	\n	\n	UofL pays no shipping costs and recei
 ves a modest per-pound rebate for most items. UofL pays per-pound to recyc
 le non-flat screen TVs and CRT monitors.\n	\n	\n	Watch a video of what hap
 pens to your E-waste when you recycle it at UofL!\n	\n	\n	All these items 
 contain toxins and reusable components which should be kept out of the nor
 mal waste stream. UofL has recycled a considerable quantity of E-waste in 
 recent years, with just over 65,000 pounds recycled in 2020 alone!
