DESCRIPTION:Since its earliest invention, photography has shaped how Americ
 an Indians have been represented in American culture and around the world.
  But how have Native people used photographs to tell their own stories and
  portray the lives of their communities? This talk will offer a cultural h
 istory of Native American photography from the 1850s through the present, 
 showcasing the work of a range of photographers who redefined the represen
 tation of Indigenous people in the United States. \n\nAbout the speaker: 
 Frank Kelderman is Associate Professor of English at the University of Lou
 isville, where he teaches Native American and Indigenous literatures and s
 erves as the Director of the Individualized Major Program. He received his
  PhD in American Culture from the University of Michigan. He is the author
  of Authorized Agents: Publication and Diplomacy in the Era of Indian Remo
 val (SUNY Press, 2019) and numerous articles and book chapters on Native 
 American literature and culture. \n\nThe Inaugural Morton Lecture, sponso
 red by the Department of English, the Thruston Morton Endowment, and the L
 ouisville Free Public Library.
