DESCRIPTION:Open expression and free inquiry are vital components of a high
 er education: listening to diverse ideas, trying out new perspectives, con
 testing established views, are all vital to the mission of expanding and d
 isseminating knowledge. What are the boundaries of speech within an academ
 ic community? What are the current legal and cultural challenges to sustai
 ning a robust and open discussion, and what tools do academic communities 
 have to sustain research and learning while abiding federal and state law?
  This talk will focus on ways to sustain open inquiry through challenging 
 times. Questions about current challenges will be welcome.
