DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof. Emilie Passemar (Indiana University)\n\nPlace:
Natural Sciences Building, Room 112 \n\nSeveral experimental collaborat
ions have recently invested considerable effort in precision studies of ta
u decays. With Belle II in operation Tau lepton physics has now entered a
new era of precision. It is therefore timely to discuss the theoretical i
mplications of these experimental advances. In this talk, I will review s
everal such implications. \n\nFirstly, I will discuss how studying the de
cays of the Tau lepton represents a very interesting laboratory to test we
ak interactions and fundamental symmetries. In particular, I will discuss
how Tau physics could play a crucial role in resolving the Cabibbo anomaly
puzzle. Then I will present the prospects Tau physics offers in looking f
or lepton flavour violation and constraining new dynamics. Finally, I wil
l review the status of the Standard Model prediction of the anomalous magn
etic moment of the muon and how hadronic tau decay data could affect it.
