ASCO: Without Permission is a genre-defying documentary about the groundbreaking Chicano art collective ASCO, whose members transformed the cultural landscape of Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s. Blending activism, performance, photography, film, and visual art, ASCO challenged exclusion within museums, Hollywood, and mainstream media. Through an innovative mix of documentary and fiction, the film reexamines the group’s enduring influence on contemporary art and culture.
The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program, College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisville, proudly announce the 33rd edition of the “Reel” Latin America(n) Film Festival, a celebration that has brought the voices of Spanish and Latin American cinema to our community for more than three decades.
The festival’s title, “Reel,” plays on both the material history of film reels and the presentation of real stories—authentic narratives that reveal the resilience, struggles, and aspirations of communities across Latin America and Spain. The 33rd edition brings five new features spanning Brazil, Spain, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela, continuing the festival’s commitment to exploring shared cultural questions across the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world.
